• EFFECT OF SURFACE ROUGHNESS ON SQUEEZE FILM CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN PARALLEL STEPPED PLATES WITH RABINOWITSCH FLUID

Abstract


The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of surface roughness on squeeze film characteristics between parallel stepped plates with non-Newtonian pseudoplastic lubricants- Rabinowitsch fluid model. On the basis of Christensen stochastic theory the analysis is done for the two types of one dimensional surface roughness patterns, viz. longitudinal and transverse roughness patterns. Expressions for the squeeze film pressure, the load carrying capacity and squeeze film time are obtained. The effect of transverse (longitudinal) roughness pattern is to increase (decrease) the squeeze film pressure, load carrying capacity and squeeze film time as compared to the corresponding smooth case.
